The Athenaeum of Cagliari, established in 1620 by Philip III of Spain, is a major and historical Italian University that has the mission to contribute to the cultural, social and economic development through research, educational activities spreading the scientific knowledge.
The principal function of an Atheneum portal is to provide the right, relevant and accessible information to the different audiences and to provide services easy to reach and to use.
The greatest challenge for UniCa was to transform the old portal into a more modern and innovative information platform that could look cool and be student-friendly.
UX DESIGN WORKFLOW
The heart of the website design and development has been the UX design workflow process as methodology. The process has involved various kinds of users all through the design process.
A NEW INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
The main goal was simplified access to information and services. For this reason the IA (Information Architecture) was redesigned according to the real needs of the final users. Contents have been rearranged by targets, not only used to filter contents, according to the best practices of User Centered Design and Content Design.
Building a site from scratch, due to the impressive size of the portal, could have been really burdensome, but: the Entando modularity; the possibility to re-use some components to automate part of development; the versatility of the CMS engine to support the design and the content management.
Results and benefits
Benefits for UniCa: a new portal, in little time; a multi-tasking, multi-users, multi-channel site; resource savings thanks to more efficient services; we are running to become an Agid best practice.
Benefits for the final users: easy to use; better student experience; higher usability from every device; easy management for the staff.
