Medifarma was founded in 1978 in Cagliari and operates as an agent, custodian, and vendor of pharmaceutical and parapharmaceutical products.
The company’s integrated logistics philosophy makes it possible for them to better organize the storage and distribution processes and consequently optimizing time and cost of transports.
Medifarma was the first company in this sector to obtain the ISO 9001 certification and is also authorized to sell all products distributed in the pharmaceutical supply chain.
Starting in 2014, the pharmaceutical industry has shown a trend towards supplying Pharmacies directly without having to go through wholesalers. As a result, the role of "mediator" between pharmacies and the pharmaceutical industry was introduced, carried out by companies such as Medifarma that deals with managing orders and delivering products directly to pharmacies throughout the country.
At that time, Medifarma gathered orders manually by emails and faxes.
After two years of mediation, Medifarma realized that, with their order volume increasing, the manual process for managing fax orders was too expensive. They needed to digitize the process if they wanted to save time and money.
SOS Farmaco was created by the founders of Medifarma. It’s a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, that automates the creation and management of orders for unavailable pharmaceutical and medical products (FMNR, prodotti Farmaceutici e Medicali Non Reperibili).
SOS Farmaco was designed to streamline the interaction between the three main participants in the chain: the pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers of medical and pharmaceutical products; Medifarma; the pharmacies themselves.
During the first phase of analysis, before digitizing all the processes, Medifarma mapped the existing manual processes and studied an e-commerce platform to determine how best to optimize the interaction process between the stakeholders.
SOS Farmaco was developed on the Entando Platform and allows Pharmacies to place online orders quickly and easily. Robust automation allows the company to save time, increasing the overall efficiency of the process and leads to a reduced costs.
One of the main characteristics of the solution is its ease of use. The application presents an essential task simply, allowing Medifarma’s less-technical staff to participate as equals in system use.
