IoT Solutions World Congress 2017: reportage post
Among the “things” that have landed at the conference, even a boat of a few meters, docked at one of the booths. Yes ...a boat, a real boat. Almost to prove that in the age of "connected things" there are no more limits, except those dictated by the necessity of transforming collected data into some kind of business value. Here are some insights from day 1.
Using IoT to drive new business value is the common denominator of the various conversations and presentations that animated the IoT Solutions World Congress this year. Here is the first strong message that emerges from the event. Not such of a new highlight, but never as this year the IoT community is talking about solutions, case studies, IoT enabled problem solving ... almost to say once and for all that IoT is not a technology but an economic revolution that the technologies revolving around connected objects make possible. That’s why applications regarding digital transformation should have a business trigger.
A second area of debate regards the practical implementation of IoT applications. When you go developing an IoT application of a certain complexity, issues such as scalability, latency, performance, reliability, and security are issues that inevitably need to be tackled. To date there are practices, starting from all distributed architectures, typically provided by Modern Applications platforms, which can give concrete answers to those challenges.
A third area of discussion, just at its dawn, but destined to become huge, is about life after the App. Thanks to the evolution in the AI field and to the advancement in voice / face recognition, the communication between humans and devices will be no more mediated via a mainly graphic interface. A completely new wave of User Interfaces and UI patterns is about to start and UX will play an even bigger role in applications users engagement. Which means new frontiers for our platform, too!
Discussions will go on today; follow the hashtag #IoTSWC17 to get a feel of the main conversations and take a look at the website.
