The Entando CMS is now enriched with new features
Entando 5.1 release brings, among a number of other updates, new functionalities in the Entando CMS. In particular, this release introduces the ability to edit and crop images inside the platform and the automated capture of image metadata in the CMS.
This is a quick introduction to the new image editing and metadata features released in 5.1 to the Entando CMS. You can also watch the video tutorial.
In Entando 5.1, you can now load more than one file at a time and crop images newly uploaded via Digital Assets. You can either crop the image dynamically or by using pre-configured crop ratios.
The first step is to log into our Entando instance and to navigate to the Digital Assets section of the Entando CMS.
On Digital Assets, selecting Add / Upload new images shows the new capability to upload multiple files concurrently. You can use the drop zone to drag and drop multiple files at once into the Entando CMS for processing.
Selecting Edit from the menu of one of the images presents the new image editor. In this editor, use the CMS feature to custom crop images to prep them for addition to content. All of the images being uploaded can be cropped at the same time.
Use your mouse or the set of controls below the image to flip, move, rotate or zoom on the uploaded images. Each cropped image is uploaded as a separate asset into the Entando CMS. So each image can be used as needed in different parts of content or across different content types.
Details on image size and composition are presented in each cropped image in the editor. Once the images are uploaded you can see all the crop versions available as separate assets for inclusion in Entando content.
In the CMS under Content Settings, users of the CMS can also define custom predefined crop ratios to use on uploaded images. This helps content editors create images with the right aspect ratio for the content the image will automatically render into. When we select Add and select the image to load, selecting Edit from the menu on that image, the new crop ratio available for use on the image is shown and the new crop image, with the correct aspect ratio for the content model, can be uploaded for use.
Also new in Entando 5.1 is the automated capture of image metadata in the CMS. In the CMS under Content Settings, tags can be defined to automatically map image metadata fields to values that are available for use in content models. Users of the CMS can also define custom tags and each of those tags is available as an attribute to be rendered into the content model. Attribute definitions and tag data can also be accessed and defined programmatically.
The metadata appears in the Metadata table at the bottom of the Edit screen.
Users can see the metadata attached to an image navigating back to Digital Assets in Entando CMS by selecting Edit from the menu on an existing image.
